The Plastics Research Council (PRC) says yes — but then casts doubt on the evidence.
There’s a problem with that story.
My latest deep dive into the PRC’s microplastics report identifies important 2024 research that appears to have been overlooked.
One study analysed blood from 36 healthy adults and found microplastics in 32 samples. More importantly, it reported associations with changes in coagulation markers.
Another study found microplastics in 18 of 20 blood samples, using a different analytical technique.
Are these studies definitive proof of harm? No – but there is proof of vascular inflammation.
Is there evidence that deserves to be discussed?
Absolutely.
I unpack the missing evidence here.
