The Adell was designed by Lievore + Altherr Désile Park for the Italian manufacturer Arper and launched in 2020. The shell is made from 80% recycled PP and can be recycled at the end of its life, once it has been separated from the steel base. This design therefore achieved a high score for end-of-life prospects in my comparison of chairs made using recycled plastics and bioplastics. However, the chair scored poorly for the remaining categories as it is only available in 2 variants and a limited colour range. The design does not stack (impacting transport efficiencies) and is heavy, implying more resources for manufacture, transportation and end of life disposal. Overall a below average score was awarded to the Adell. Lievore + Altherr Désile Park is based in Barcelona and is the result of a merger of two studios specialised in product design and development, strategic consulting, creative direction, art direction and ephemeral architecture for leading international design companies.
