Designed by Space Copenhagen for Mater and launched in 2023. the Eternity Side features over 4.3kg of wood or coffee waste combined with e-waste to form the shell. Despite this promising and innovative use of waste, the chair achieved a low score in my comparison of sustainable designs. The chair weighs 6.2 kg, significantly more than the average of 4kg, indicating more energy was needed to manufacture and transport the chair. Recyclates constitute just over three quarters of the materials used. While the steel base can be recycled at the end of life, the shell cannot and must be separated from the base to facilitate desirable end of life management. The chair does not stack and is shipped in cartons containing only 2 units.
