Designed by: Archirivolto Design for ACTIU. From an environmental perspective this design appears promising on first inspection as it is a light, inexpensive monobloc design that can be stacked on a trolley up to 20 high (for the armless version). However, the recycled polypropylene is mixed with a relatively high content of fibreglass, which itself has been recycled but combining the two negatively impacts the end-of-life prospects for the chair. Only two versions of the design are available (with or without arms) and colour choice is limited to 6. An upholstered pad in a wide range of colours is available to enhance comfort although no details of the sustainability credentials of this component are given. Overall, the Fluit achieved an average score in my comparison of chairs designed to deliver more sustainable outcomes.
