According to the manufacturer: ‘Defined by its open-back shell, Layout Armchair offers a sense of lightness – both visually and physically – while offering natural, responsive support. [The 221 version is] crafted from at least 96% post-consumer recycled plastic, it is designed for disassembly, refurbishment, and long-term use. With countless combinations of shells, bases, and legs, it transitions effortlessly between offices, public spaces, and domestic settings.’ Hay also claim the chair is fully recyclable. Despite this the chair achieved only an average score in my comparison of more sustainable designs. The chair is heavy and does not stack to reduce transport impacts. Further, it must be dismantled to enable recycling.
