The Louvre Chair was designed by Danny Fang for the Malaysian manufacturer Kian back in 2012. This version, made using recycled ocean bound PP was launched in 2020. The design achieved an average score in my comparison of more sustainable plastic chairs. The Louvre lost points for only stacking four units high and the chair is only available in one configuration with three colour choices offered. Kian partnered with Heng Hiap Industries (Malaysian recycling company) who certifies the ocean plastics used to make this design through OceanWorks.
Dutchman Danny Fang (b. 1975) graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 1998. After working as a freelance designer and developing a project for fair trade in Kenya and Zimbabwe, he worked at the Dutch Institute of Applied Scientific Research for almost two years.
In 2007, Danny moved to Hong Kong, where he set up Fang Studio Ltd. a design company that produces products for Asian manufacturing. Danny’s focus has been on working with Asian manufacturers to develop a design-driven culture within the realm of mass manufacturing.
