Note:
The Roma is typical of the Memphis period, looking more like a throne than a chair the one-piece painted fibreglass shell appears to be constructed from blocks. The manufacturing process is similar to that for Sergio Mazza’s 1969 design Toga with a single sheet of fibreglass moulded to form the shape of the chair. In this case a glittery finish has been applied with the paint, reminiscent of flashy finishes from the golden age of American automobiles. With the Memphis group wrapping up in 1988 the Roma was one of the last furniture creations to emerge from the movement.
