Note:
The Voxel is an update on the Vertex chair, both designed by Karim Rashid and manufactured by Spanish firm Vondom. The Voxel chair features harsh geometric forms giving it an architectural appearance with sharp angles and flat planes used to define the form; a similar approach was adopted by Rashid when developing his Poly chair for Bonaldo. The design was developed altering the angles between the facets, optimising for comfort and strength and then, finally enhancing to improve visual appeal.
The focus of the Voxel is the legs, where the precisely faceted angles have been designed to distribute weight allowing the back legs to be eliminating. This allows the Voxel to be counted among a small number of cantilevered designs that have been successfully developed in plastic. The indoor/outdoor Voxel chair is made from injection moulded polypropylene with fiberglass and is available in black, white, blue, bronze, ecru, mustard, red and tortora. Like all monoblocs it is lightweight (6.5kg) and can be stacked to save space. A version with arms is also available.
